'Do You Remember the Tree by The River'

This exhibition is the result of four of the exciting art projects undertaken by the students at Longford Kindergarten. The first is a large canvas work inspired by the work of local contemporary artist Claire Sayers. From an early age Claire developed an interest in art which was always encouraged by artistic mother. With Claire's permission the young artists were able to immerse themselves in her amazing art.

The students chose the colours and tools to create their own version of the painting 'Do You Remember the Tree by The River'. The young artists' artwork also reflect the kindergarten's Bush Kinder Program and the beautiful Grandfather Trees we see along the river on our Bug Blitz excursions with Dr John Caldow.

In the pastel and watercolour works students were inspired by local artists Rosie Sayer (Claire's daughter) and Hayden Jackson. It was heading into the winter season, so the young artists' chose a winter colour pallet. The students used watercolour paints, a variety of brush sizes, quality paper and oil pastels. The young artists chose to paint what they connected with.

The watercolour landscapes are a result of an Art Gallery visit and workshop at Longford Kinder, inspired by the work of J. M. W. Turner.

The sculptural paper artworks are a result of the kindergartens partnership with the Japanese Language Program, in which the students have been learning about the work of Yayoi Kusama.
