The concept of ‘synchronicity’, according to Carl Jung (1875–1961), suggested that coincidences could be related to unconscious processes, mirroring internal states and potentially offering guidance or insights.
Seemingly meaningful coincidences happen to us every day. Through our collective unconscious, memories, dreams and reflections bubble beneath the surface. In this world of inner and outer space, our relationship to the environment is experienced in many ways—through fantastic visions, symbols, sorrow, connection to country, colonisation and decline.
Synchron City is a sprawling adventure playground of art where old and new ideas collide unlike any previous exhibition at the Gallery. Oscillating between glitz and glamour, chance and coincidence, and science and Surrealism, this dazzling exhibition takes Jung’s concept of ‘synchronicity’ into a new dimension—expect the unexpected.
Synchron City leads visitors on a strange and immersive journey through contemporary art where artworks disrupt and question everyday life. Touching on elements of superstition and the supernatural, this exhibition expands the senses and leaves us questioning what is real and what is dream.
Curated by special guest Cassie May, Synchron City features works by a range of contemporary artists including Patricia Piccinini, Jon McCormack, Kenny Pittock, Heidi Yardley, Darren Sylvester, Paula Mahoney and The Huxleys - and many more.
