Demonstration of Stained Glass Techniques | Catherine Blamey

Have you ever wondered how stained glass was created? This artist-led demonstration is for you.

To celebrate our exhibition Luminous: John Orval and Modernist Stained Glass in Australia artist Catherine Blamey will be offering a unique demonstration.

Catherine will be demonstrating the difference between stained glass and lead light. She will demonstrate how stained glass uses painting techniques to illustrate more intricate designs using the addition of tone to create depth, texture and detail. She will also show the construction technique of Lead Lighting that both lead light and stained glass use to make a window.

This demonstration will take place after the exhibition talk with guest curators Alison Inglis AM and Bronwyn Hughes OAM.


ABOUT THE ARTIST

Catherine Blamey

Catherine studied stained glass at MonashUniversity and went on to work for Janusz Kuzbicki and Associates, helping tomake a major commission for St Paul's Anglican Church Frankston.

She then started her own Business in South Gippsland and received a major commission for windows in the Foster War Memorial Arts Centre.

Catherine Received a Regional Arts Victoria grant to collaborate with Kate shone and travel their work to England for exhibition.

Currently her main interest is themes of Australian Plants and Birds, receiving many private commissions in the Gippsland area expressing this theme.
