Entries are now open for the Gippsland Print Award, a $5,000 acquisitive award open to all artists living and working in Australia.

The Gippsland Print Award is a $5,000 acquisitive award open to all artists living and working in Australia, for prints that have been completed since 1 August 2021. Artists may enter up to two original works, and every work submitted for the Award will be exhibited at the Gippsland Art Gallery from 2 September to 19 November 2023.

To enter the Prize please submit your artwork with the Entry Form by 5.30pm Friday 11 August.

First Prize: $5,000 (Acquisitive)

Pat Waters Prize for Gippsland Artists: $1,000 (Non–Acquisitive)

  • Friday 1 September, 6:00pm: Spring Season Launch and announcement of winner
  • Saturday 2 September—Sunday 19 November: Exhibition on display
  • Monday 20 November—Friday 15 December: Collection of artworks

Terms and Conditions
  1. The Gippsland Print Award is open to any artist living and working in Australia.
  2. To be eligible for the ‘Pat Waters Prize for Gippsland Artists’ entrants must live or work within the Gippsland region as defined by the borders of Wellington, Latrobe, East Gippsland, South Gippsland, Bass Coast and Baw Baw Shire Councils.
  3. Entries must have been completed since 1 August 2021.
  4. Entrants may submit up to two entries, in any print medium except photography.
  5. A non-refundable payment of $25.00 is applicable for each entry. The Gippsland Art Gallery will not store any payment details, nor share your information with a third party.
  6. To be eligible for entry Entrants must submit their artwork/s, a completed entry form, and payment for each artwork to the Gippsland Art Gallery by 5.30pm Friday 11 August 2023.
  7. Entries must be delivered to the Gallery at any time during Gallery opening hours. All cost of transport to and from the Gallery is the responsibility of the Entrant.
  8. All entries will be insured by the Gallery while at the Gallery. Insurance during transport is the responsibility of each Entrant.
  9. Entries must not exceed dimensions of 150 x 100cm (including frame).
  10. Entries must be professionally presented, free of dirt and insect contamination, and ready to hang with either two D-rings or hanging wire attached. Entries that are not
    framed or mounted will be pinned by the corners. Each entry must be labeled on the back with the artist’s name and title of work.
  11. All entries received will be exhibited for the duration of the exhibition, except in any case where the Gallery considers an exhibit to be defamatory or likely to cause offense.
  12. The decision of the judging panel is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
  13. All work must be available for sale. The Gallery reserves the right to first option for purchase.
  14. Entries are required to remain on display for the duration of the exhibition.
  15. Entrants agree to allow the Gallery to photograph and reproduce their work for the purpose of promoting the Award, for a period not exceeding two years from the closure of the exhibition. Any reproductions of artworks will provide full attribution of the artist.
  16. Entries must be collected following the conclusion of the exhibition during Gallery opening hours from Monday 20 November until Friday 15 December. Unless prior arrangement
    is made with the Gallery, any entries not collected by this date will be disposed of.
  17. Employees of Wellington Shire Council, and members of the Friends of the Gippsland Art Gallery Committee and the Gippsland Art Gallery Advisory Board and members of their immediate families are ineligible for entry.
